Their claims are true. The gun has a 7075 TG51 aluminum slide that is hard anodized. The frame is modern polymer.

The result is a quality pistol that doesn't feel cheap, even though it is cheap. Due to the design of the pistol, it weighs 15.3 ounces.

The fit of the gun is very good. For most hands, the Military and Police .22 are equally well balanced and fast.

I started shooting with an inexpensive Winchester Wildcat, a 40-grain load with a good reputation. I have shot a few boxes with good results.

Shooting at human targets at five, seven and ten yards, little Smith is manoeuvrable and quick on target.

It is a good weapon for self defense shooting. The gun hits the target accurately and works well.

For those who struggle with heavy weapons, the M&P22 is an ideal tool for defense and sport - except for the caliber, but then the .22 LR is a useful cartridge result.

When it comes to field pistol use, the M&P22 is easier to use and more accurate than most pistol-style revolvers.

If you use the .22 for self-defense, the ten-shot autoloader is the team's first choice of rimfire rifle.

Then I tried the pistol to be sure. Shooting from a stable, standing position, I shot five groups at 15 yards.

I use a Winchester Wildcat and a Winchester Super X 37-grain hollowpoint. The 16oz pistol isn't the easiest to hold steady, but the pistol is well-received.

Most five shot groups are two inches or less. With advanced pistol sights, the M&P22 is an excellent pistol.

I tried many different weapons today. While I sometimes think modern guns are better, there are also a lot of cheap guns out there that make you wonder what the designer was thinking.

Whether used as a revolver or for practice or outdoor use, the new Smith and Wesson is a great addition to any firearm.
