Bah In Military - Living in a barracks or base has its advantages (and disadvantages), but there is much to be said for your own space outside the gate. And unlike civilians who want to rent, the military doesn't have to worry about their rent being a big part of their pay because of a small amount called BAH. Whether you just don't have a home in the base or want to live a little more independently on the weekends, this benefit ensures that you don't have to pay out of pocket for a roof because that military BAH payments are designed to cover most or all of your housing costs.

BAH stands for Basic Housing Allowance. All active duty military personnel, including reservists and National Guard members with at least 30 days of active duty, are eligible and receive benefits that amount to approximately 95 % of rent. When Reserve or National Guard personnel are active for 30 days or more receiving standard BAH during that period, personnel receiving less than 30 days receive Reserve Component/Transit (BAH RC/T) at BAH.
